DIY: Make Your Own Regenerating Vitamin C Serum for a Younger Look

Share

There are a multitude of products on the market today touting their ability to make you look like a younger you. They claim to pump up the skin where it needs it, remove age spots, or at least prevent them, and give you the glow of someone ten years younger. Do they really work? There is no way to tell unless you spend the big bucks and try them out. However, a lot of these serums use natural ingredients we can get ourselves and since we don’t want the chemical ingredients anyway, why not try to make one at home. If it works, you’ve saved loads of money and a trip to the mall, and if it doesn’t, you haven’t lost anything but a few grocery items and a bit of time.

What are the benefits of a vitamin C serum?

Vitamin C has a couple of benefits that play a huge role in making skin look younger and healthier. One great benefit is that it is loaded with antioxidants that assist in the repair and renewal of skin cells. Vitamin C is also a natural wrinkle fighter. It stimulates the collagen process which firms and tightens the skin. If your skin is sensitive, be careful with any product, homemade or store bought. Begin by using this vitamin C serum in small concentrations to see if you have a negative reaction before committing to use. The L-ascorbic acid is the ingredient that may cause irritation for a small number of people.

Recipe for Vitamin C Youth Serum

  • Empty dark colored bottle with dropper
  • 1 tsp Natural Vitamin C powder
  • 1 tsp filtered water
  • 1-2 tbsp Aloe Vera gel
  • ¼ tsp Vitamin E oil or 3 vitamin E oil pills

Instructions

Add the 1 tsp of Vitamin C powder to a bowl (one with a spout works best)

Add the teaspoon of filtered water and mix until the vitamin C powder is completely dissolved

If using vitamin E pills, use a pin to puncture the casing. Squeeze the oil from the capsules into the bowl.

 Add the aloe vera gel
Mix all ingredients until fully combined. The serum should be viscous, so if it’s too thin, add more aloe vera gel
Store your serum in a dark glass container so that sunlight does not affect the formula and cause it to go rancid.
To use the serum correctly, begin before bed to wash your face and use a toner. After the toner, dab a small amount of the serum onto your face and gently massage the entire face. Follow-up the process by using a good quality moisturizer. It is not recommended that you use this, or any vitamin C serum during the day, because it may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight.
